Winter/Spring 2010 Oration Days

The first set of Oration Days for 2010 will be on Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m. on the following dates:

at the Tracy Library in New London. We begin with the kids' presentations (poetry recitation, songs, book reports, etc.), with snacks and informal activities following. We appreciate the generous welcoming of the library to our group and try to respond with relatively quiet movements, not-too-messy snacks, and clean-up afterward. Hope to see you there!

Oration Days, Fall 2007

at Tracy Memorial Library in New London in the main floor meeting room
(just to the left of the vestibule).

For those of you who have not attended, this is a chance for children to
recite a memorized poem, present a short report, discuss a project, etc.
(sorry, no music this year) and/or listen to what others have done.
Potluck snacks follow (please, nothing too "scatterable"). No
admission, but new this year, we will be accepting a semesterly offering
from anyone interested as a donation to the library. Please let us know
if you have any questions; we'd love to see you there.

Fall 2006 Oration Days

Oration Days for this fall will be at Tracy Memorial Library (New London) from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Meeting Room on the following days:

Potluck snacks/drinks are welcome, but not required. For those of you who have not been, Oration Days are a great opportunity for children to do an oral presentation (if they are ready) and to see what others have been memorizing or working on. Families are welcome to attend even if a child is not doing a presentation. Please let us know if you or they have any questions about what to expect. Hope to see you there!

Our next Parents' Meeting is on Tuesday, May 9th from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Tracy Memorial Library. It's a curriculum night! Bring any materials you have enjoyed using so we can all take a look at them. As always, anyone interested in homeschooling is welcome to attend!

Spring Play Afternoons

Here's our tentative schedule for the next few weeks. Play dates are at the New London Outing Club playground from about 3 p.m. to whenever. (Note to new families...we don't always show up right at 3:00!) Weather permitting, of course. We'll use our email list to reschedule for rain.

Homeschooling Open House!

May 12 from 7 to 9 pm at the Tracy Library meeting room.

Our normal parents' meeting for May is going to be an "Open House" for any families in the area who would like to learn more about homeschooling and meet other homeschooling families. Homeschooling parents: bring any books/materials you think would be of interest to others. Regarding children attending - that is up to each family. Consider the place and time, and decide what you want to do. Any "prospective" homeschooling families would have the opportunity to meet more of the children at an Oration Day or play afternoon.

Parents' Meetings
These meetings are held on the following Thursday evenings at the Tracy Library meeting room from 7 to 9 p.m. Anyone interested in homeschooling is welcome!

Children's Oration Days
These meetings are for the children to do an oral presentation of any type and then have some time for socializing. They are held on the following Tuesday afternoons at the Tracy Library meeting room from 2 to 3 p.m.

(Note - we were unable to get the library meeting room for March. Perhaps we can think of another activity for them that month!)

Play Days
As soon as weather permits this spring, we will announce weekly outdoor play afternoons!

Here's the info for our informal fall play dates. We decided to alternate between Tuesdays and Wednesdays - it adds a bit of confusion, but allows more people to participate overall. The place is the New London Outing Club. The time is 3:00 p.m. Weather permitting, of course!

Play Afternoons

Last spring we designated Wednesdays at 3 p.m. at the NL school playground as a standing "play date." Some have suggested we move the location to the NL Outing Club so that older kids could use the tennis courts. We'll discuss this and pick a day/time at the first parents' meeting.
